It's Not About You
Updated: Jan 11
In the book of 1 Kings 12 there is a leadership change in Israel. King Solomon dies and is succeeded by his son Rehoboam.
While becoming king may have been joyous for Rehoboam, he misunderstood what got him there. It wasn't because he was entitled to the throne. It wasn't because he had been groomed for leadership by his father.
It was purely by God's grace.
Rehoboam became king in spite of himself. His promotion was based, in part, on a promise God had made to his grandfather, David. He was given a brief season to rule the people. What would he do with his authority?
He haughtily abused it. He decided to act like a tyrant instead of a leader, and eventually spent all of his rule in constant wars and turmoil. He died without any great accomplishment for the Lord.
Think about it. Have you ever heard of him?
My takeaway is that we must always strive to remain humble. God in his wisdom and generosity may promote you to be a king or in any number of ways. When that happens, remember that it's not about you.
Give credit to God, to whom it's due!
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights ..." James 1:17.
The key to a blessed life is to recognize where our blessings come from and to spend some time giving honor to the Father who blesses.
How will you honor God for your blessings today?
